Partigiani Lasts – How to Choose Shoes for Your Foot Width and Instep Height

Choosing the right shoe size is only part of achieving a proper fit. Two people who wear the same shoe size may need completely different footwear because of differences in foot width, instep height, forefoot shape and overall foot proportions.

This is why Partigiani shoes are made on a variety of different lasts. Each last has its own proportions and may fit the foot in a different way.

Some lasts are designed for wide feet and high insteps, others are better suited to feet of average width, while some provide additional room in the forefoot without excessive volume over the instep.

The comparison below will help you understand the differences between Partigiani lasts and choose the model best suited to your foot.

New Partigiani Lasts for Shoes Made in Poland

As we continue to develop the Partigiani collection made in Poland, we are also introducing our own names for selected lasts. This makes it easier to identify individual constructions and understand their distinctive characteristics.

Partigiani Baltico – Double Stitch-Down and Blake

Baltico is the name of the last developed for Partigiani models made in Poland using the Double Stitch-Down construction.

Double Stitch-Down construction gives the shoes a more substantial and less formal character than traditional slim dress shoes. The name Baltico reflects the robust, northern character of this part of the Partigiani collection.

A detailed classification of the Baltico last in terms of width and instep height will be added after completing full measurements and comparing it with the other Partigiani lasts.

Forte – Wide Foot and Very High Instep

Partigiani Forte, previously identified by the technical number 22190, is a very good starting point for people with a wide foot and a particularly high instep.

The defining characteristic of Forte is the combination of a wide forefoot with a very generous amount of room over the instep.

Granvia – Spacious and Elongated Last

Partigiani Granvia, previously known as Loto, is a wide and elongated last that also provides generous room over the instep.

It is particularly suitable for people who struggle not only with the width of dress shoes but also with their overall internal volume.

Classico – Classic Proportions

Partigiani Classico is the new name for the last previously known as Clas. It is intended to serve as a clear reference point for the classic part of the Partigiani collection.

Which Partigiani Last Is Best for a Wide Foot?

If you have a wide foot, the following lasts are particularly worth considering:

  • Forte – wide, very high instep,
  • Granvia – wide, elongated and high-volume,
  • Vistola (Partigiani NOS) – very wide with a high instep,
  • Boston – very wide with a high instep,
  • Alex NOS – very wide with a medium instep,
  • Harry – wide with a medium instep,
  • Kylian – wide with a high instep,
  • Tomy – wide with a high instep,
  • Flex – wide with a high instep,
  • Rover -8 – wide with a high instep,
  • College – wide with a medium instep,
  • 944 – wide with a low instep.

Which Last Is Best for a High Instep?

If you have a high instep, the lasts particularly worth considering are Forte, Granvia, Vistola (Partigiani NOS), Boston, Kylian, Tomy, Flex, Rover -8, Beck, Javo 8719 and Nuvola.

A special case: Forte. The Partigiani Forte last combines a wide forefoot with a very high instep. It can therefore be particularly useful for people whose dress shoes are correct in length but feel very tight across the top of the foot.

I Have a Wide Foot but a Low Instep – Which Last Should I Choose?

In this case, the 944 last is particularly worth considering. It combines a wide forefoot with a low instep.

It is therefore designed for a different type of foot than lasts such as Forte, Boston or Nuvola, which provide additional room both in width and above the foot.

Will Choosing a Larger Size Solve the Problem of Shoes Being Too Narrow?

In most cases, this is not the best solution.

If a shoe is too narrow or too low over the instep, choosing a larger size may provide additional room, but it can also make the shoe unnecessarily long.

For a wider foot, it is therefore better to choose the right last first and only then select the appropriate size.

Why Is the Last So Important When Buying Shoes Online?

Shoe size alone does not describe the complete fit of a shoe. The last determines its proportions, width, internal volume and the amount of space available over the instep.

When choosing footwear, it is therefore useful to know at least:

  • your foot length,
  • your foot width,
  • your instep height,
  • the model or last of shoes that currently fit you well.

Based on this information, we can recommend the most suitable Partigiani model much more accurately.

How to Choose the Right Partigiani Last

If you have an average-width foot with a medium instep, Edwin can be a useful reference point.

If you need additional width, it is worth considering lasts such as Harry, Javo, College, Forte or one of the other wide-fitting lasts listed in our table.

If you have both a wide foot and a high instep, the lasts particularly worth considering include Forte, Granvia, Kylian, Boston, Vistola, Tomy, Flex and Rover -8.

If your foot is medium in width but you have a high instep, you may want to consider Beck or Javo 8719.

Choosing the Right Last Is Just as Important as Choosing the Right Size

At KlasyczneButy.pl, we do not treat shoe size as the only factor determining how footwear should fit.

Understanding the different Partigiani lasts allows us to select shoes not only according to foot length but also according to width, instep height and overall foot volume.

If you are unsure which last will suit you best, contact us. Information about your foot length and width, together with the models of shoes that currently fit you well, will make it much easier for us to recommend the right Partigiani model.
